Faith First > What Did Jesus Teach (Part 2)

What Did Jesus Teach (Part 2)

We started a short summary of some of the major points of Jesus' teachings. We reflected on the following points: The reign of God is here; God is a loving Father; and God is merciful. Here, we continue the reflection.

God's love is for everyone. God's reign embraces not only the Chosen People but all people as well. Jesus told a parable in which all people were invited to the heavenly banquet. Entrance into God's kingdom is a free gift from a merciful God; we cannot earn it. We show our appreciation for this gift when we unite our love of God and neighbor. "You must love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39).

And who is our neighbor? Everyone, even our enemy. (Read Luke 10:29-37 and Matthew 22:1-14.)

Repent, believe the good news, and imitate Jesus' life of service. If we want God's reign to touch our hearts, then we must turn from our sins and put on the mind of Jesus Christ. We should be humble and admit that we need God's help to live good lives. We must believe that Jesus is God's Son, the way to happiness, and we must become his disciples. We must be light to the world, allowing the Lord to shine through us by serving others. What we do to others, especially the "least of these," we do to the Lord. (Read Luke 18:9-14 and Matthew 25:31-46.)
