About SHPS

Sacred Heart Parish School is one of 42 Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Sacramento. It is owned and operated by Sacred Heart Parish and is governed by the pastor and principal, who are advised by the nine-member School Board. It is fully accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is staffed by a lay faculty of experienced educators.
Sacred Heart Parish School has a proud tradition of excellence and has long enjoyed a reputation for being a leader among diocesan schools in academics and athletics. Many graduates go on to distinction in a variety of endeavors at area high schools. The vast majority, in fact, attend Catholic high schools. Thanks to its high standards and excellent reputation, the school each year attracts more student applicants than it can accept. The fact that many alumni parents send their children to Sacred Heart Parish School is further testimony to the quality of education, sense of community and commitment to the development of strong Christian values that are the foundation of the school's outstanding reputation.
Sacred Heart Parish School first opened its doors in 1934, operating out of the Parish Hall until 1939, when the building it presently occupies was constructed. A growing enrollment resulted in a later addition to the building in 1945. In 1998 the school underwent yet another addition: the construction of a science lab and multipurpose room on the spot where the kindergarten play structure was housed.
The school serves families of all income levels, while the majority of students are from medium income households. The vast majority are Catholic, but the school is open to families of all faiths who accept the philosophies and mission of Sacred Heart Parish School.
Parishioners, parents and other supporters donate their time, effort and money to the school, resulting in a strong sense of ownership in the school's financial welfare. Thanks to successful fundraising and the substantial contribution from Sacred Heart's Foundation, tuition has remained as low as possible for the last several years.
