Faculty

The Sisters of Mercy originally staffed Sacred Heart School. The school's current staff consists of a lay administrator, 11 lay teachers, three classroom assistants (one of whom is a Sister of Mercy) and a librarian. Other school personnel include office staff, playground supervisors, extension personnel, cafeteria staff and custodians. Support staff total 15 lay persons. In addition, parents volunteer to help in the classrooms, assisting with reading groups, computer instruction, physical education, art and the library.

Professional in-service programs are regularly scheduled throughout the school year. Four in-service days are mandated by the Catholic School Department, one of which is a faculty retreat day. Sacred Heart also provides "mini in-services" that relate to the school's overall or individual instructional professional needs. Also, on a rotational basis during the year, each teacher is offered the opportunity to attend an in-service day related to his or her grade level or subject area. These are paid for by the school.

Faculty supervision is the responsibility of the principal. During the course of the year, many informal classroom visits take place. In the spring, a formal classroom observation is scheduled.
